SUEK (Sibirskaja ugolnaja energetitscheskaja kompanija) is the largest Russian coal producer (before UGMK and Mechel ). The name is the abbreviation for Russian Сибирская угольная энергетическая компания (German Siberian Coal Energy Society ). SUEK belongs to the oligarch Andrei Melnichenko .

In 2015, 97.8 million t of coal were mined (for comparison: 7 million t in Germany), of which 46.9 million t were exported. The coal is shipped through the ports of Ust-Luga , Murmansk , Azov , Vanino and Vostochny .

SUEK operates 18 of its own power plants with a capacity of 7 GW to generate electricity from coal.

With 20,400 rented freight wagons, SUEK is responsible for 6% of the total transport volume of RŽD . Railroad transportation costs of $ 34 per tonne were incurred for exported coal and $ 11 / tonne for domestic sales.
