The SV Motor Babelsberg eV is a non-profit sports association in Potsdam district Babelsberg . It was founded on August 3, 1949 as the company sports club "Karl Marx" and was known in the following years until 1990 under the name BSG Motor Babelsberg . Motor Babelsberg is represented in several leagues. Among other things, the club's boxing department boxes in the 1st Bundesliga and the judo department fights in the 2nd Bundesliga.
history
The club was founded by the bowling, gymnastics, football and handball sections, which merged on August 3, 1949 to form the company sports association (BSG) "Karl Marx". The official founding event took place on September 8, 1949. In December 1950 the BSG "Karl Marx" was given the new name BSG "Motor Babelsberg". Carrier operating the BSG was the locomotive Karl Marx Babelsberg .
In the following years the sections boxing , table tennis , wrestling , motor racing , billiards , judo , roller sports , athletics , weightlifting and chess were founded. In 1988 the BSG had 1218 members in 10 sections.
After taking over the soccer section of SC Potsdam, the soccer team played in the second highest division of the GDR, the GDR League, for several years . Motor Babelsberg also achieved greater success in boxing. In 1964 Roland Gehn was GDR light welterweight champion, and there were several second and third places for boxers from the club at GDR championships. Manfred Wolke began his boxing career at Motor Babelsberg.
In 1990, with the transformation of the locomotive works into a corporation, the subsidies to the BSG by the company were stopped. As the successor to BSG Motor Babelsberg, "SV Motor Babelsberg eV" was founded in the same year. In the year it was founded, the association had 550 members in the sports of billiards, boxing, football, handball, judo, bowling, table tennis and gymnastics / gymnastics. Club member Erhard Buchholz was elected President of the German Judo Association (DJV) in 1990 and led the negotiations with DJB President Klaus-Jürgen Schulze , which ended on February 2, 1991 with the unification of the two national judo sports associations. In 1991 the table tennis department was dissolved. At the end of the year, the football department left the club and founded its own club, SV Babelsberg 03 eV
In 1993 a contract was signed with the Sports and Bathing Authority, which defines SV Motor Babelsberg as the main user of the motorsport hall at Konsumhof. In addition, the hall is also used for school sports. In 2001 the sport of Ju-Jutsu and in 2008 Aikido , which had started as subgroups of the Judo department, were incorporated into the association as independent departments.
The judoka of SV Motor Babelsberg fought in the Brandenburg State League from 1998 to 2011. The national league team (men) was once champion (2000) and once runner-up (2010). Until 2003 the women fought in the Brandenburg State League and were able to become champions once (2003) and runner-up three times (2000, 2001, 2002).
The regional league team of judoka rose in 2008 to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the first year of the Bundesliga, 3rd place was achieved and the team was also voted “Most Popular Bundesliga Team” in the 1st and 2nd leagues. In addition, team captain Stefan Wimmer was named the most popular Bundesliga athlete. The award by the DJB took place in Düsseldorf at the Judo Grand Prix 2010. In 2010 and 2011 the team was able to repeat this success and again took third place. The team was again nominated as the most popular team in Germany. The most popular athlete was the heavyweight Michel Nijenhuis.
The club has been back in the 1st Bundesliga in boxing since the 2011/12 season and in the 2nd Bundesliga in judo from 2009 to 2013.
Judoka Manja Keller and Robert Zimmermann (member until 2004) are among the most successful athletes at SV Motor Babelsberg. Both of them not only became German champions several times, but also took part successfully in European and world championships.
SV Motor Babelsberg currently has around 700 members from all ages in the sports of aikido, acrobatics, billiards, boxing, handball, judo, ju-jutsu, bowling, gymnastics and hiking.
billiards
The billiards department of SV Motor Babelsberg was founded in 1954. In 2009 the first pool team rose to the regional league. In the 2009/10 season she reached sixth place there. However, the team was disqualified, their results were taken out of the evaluation and all games were rated 0: 8. In the following season, the team started in the association league and rose to first place in the league. In the 2011/12 season they achieved first place with only two defeats and thus made it through to the regional league. In 2013 Motor Babelsberg won the German 8-ball team cup with a 5-3 final victory over PBC Schwerte 87 . In 2015 they rose to second place in the Regionalliga in the 2nd Bundesliga . In October 2015, the club reached the final of the German 8-Ball Cup for the second time, but had to admit defeat to PBC Schwerte 3: 5. In the 2015/16 season they finished sixth in the second division. The subsequent relegation against BC Siegtal 89 was omitted because the fifth-placed PBSG Wolfsburg withdrew their second division team and Motor Babelsberg thus remained in the second division.
In 2014, Sascha-Andrej Tege became a player of the club German champions in singles . In 2010 Tege had already won a Euro Tour tournament with the German Open .
