The Saar hiking trail leads over 260 km from the source of the Saar am Donon to the mouth of the Saar in the Moselle near Konz . The path is signposted with a blue St. Andrew's cross on a white background.

The hiking trail begins on the Donon in the Vosges and leads from there to the source of the Red Saar. From here it goes down into the valley to Abreschviller , the first place on the Saar. After about 25 km the path reaches the city of Sarrebourg . Via Fénétrange and Sarre-Union , the route reaches Sarreguemines , known for the porcelain factory that existed here. The path leads the hiker to Grosbliederstroff along the French bank of the Saar, before passing the German-French border via Alsting and reaching Saarbrücken . Via the Spicherer Heights, which were the scene of the Battle of Spichern , the hiker reaches the Goldene Bremm. The path leads over the heights south of the Saar, reaches Völklingen and from here the forest area of ​​the Warndt . At Überherrn the path reaches the Saarland circular hiking trail , where both paths merge for a short time. The hiker reaches the Saar via Berus and Siersburg , always following the heights west of the Saar, at the Mettlach district of Dreisbach . Walking a short distance along the Saar loop , the path climbs uphill and leads to the Cloef viewpoint , from which hikers can see the entire Saar loop. The path now remains on the heights west of the Saar, there are numerous views of the Saar valley. Now the hiker reaches the wine-growing region on the Saar and the city of Saarburg . Walking through the wine-growing region, the town of Konz is reached via Ayl , where the Saar hiking trail ends.
