The Saarwald-Verein ( SWV for short ) (full name Landesverband Saarwald-Verein e.V. ) is an association in the hiking movement based in Saarbrücken . The association is entered in the register of associations of the Saarbrücken district court (VR 2965). It was founded on April 28, 1907 by hiking friends from Saarbrücken and Dillingen / Saar on the summit of the Litermont . The association is a member of the Association of German Mountain and Hiking Associations , which has 57 member associations throughout Germany. In 2016, 37 local associations belong to the Saarwald Association. These local associations are located in all districts of the Saarland except the Saarpfalz district . This group, which was part of the founding of the Association for the Palatinate , is not represented in the Saarwald Association; the hiking clubs in this district are members of the Palatinate Forest Association .

Tasks and goals of the association

The association maintains 2,400 kilometers of hiking trails and seven hiking homes in Saarland. There are a total of 36 hiking trails in Saarland marked by the Saarwald Association, 17 of which are so-called supra-local hiking trails, some of which lead beyond the state borders. The other 19 hiking trails are part of the Saar-Lor-Lux cultural hiking trails , which were created with the assistance of the Saarland Broadcasting Corporation . Among these, too, there are paths that not only lead through the Saarland. The maintenance of hiking, the training of hiking guides as well as monument protection and the maintenance of customs are the goals of the association.
