Sabine Mecking (* 1967 in Isselburg ) is a German historian and professor at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Life

Mecking graduated from high school Haus Aspel in Rees - Haldern in 1986. After studying administrative sciences , which she graduated with a diploma (FH) in 1989, she took up a teaching degree at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. Mecking studied history, mathematics, sports and social sciences. In 1995 she passed the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools in the subjects of history, mathematics and sport.

In May 2000, she received her PhD in history with the study Always loyal. Municipal officials between the German Empire and the Federal Republic in Münster for Dr. phil. This was followed by activities as a pedagogical and scientific assistant at the historical site Villa ten Hompel , as a scientific consultant at the Westphalian Institute for Regional History in Münster and as an employee at the German Historical Institute in Washington DC

In 2006, Mecking moved to the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf as a habilitation scholarship holder from the DFG , where she received the Venia legendi for modern and contemporary history in 2009. Democracy development and reorganization of state and society in North Rhine-Westphalia 1965–2000 was awarded the Wolf-Erich-Kellner Prize for scientific work on liberalism (2010) and the Science Prize of the Düsseldorf Jonges and the University of Düsseldorf (2011). This was followed by substitute and visiting professorships at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster, the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf, the Charles University in Prague and the University of Copenhagen . In 2012, Mecking was offered a W2 professorship at the University of Police and Public Administration in North Rhine-Westphalia in Duisburg. On October 1, 2018, she was appointed W3 Professor for Hessian State History at the Philipps University of Marburg. From 2021, after the director's position has become vacant, the professorship will also be in charge of the non-university Hessian State Office for Regional History in Marburg.

Mecking is the chairwoman of the Brauweiler district for regional and contemporary history and managing editor of the magazine Geschichte im Westen . She is co-editor of the series history and ethics of the police and public administration , Düsseldorf writings on the modern history of the state and the history of North Rhine-Westphalia , the history of North Rhine-Westphalia and the writings on the history of political music .

In 2009, Mecking was elected a corresponding member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . She is also a member of the Historical Commission for Hesse and the Society for Rhenish History.
