Sage Kotsenburg (born July 27, 1993 in Coeur d'Alene , Idaho ) is an American snowboarder .

Career

Kotsenburg made his international debut at FIS snowboard competitions in December 2006 in the halfpipe disciplines and from January 2008 also in slopestyle. Since 2006 he has also participated in competitions on the TTR World Snowboard Tour . He was on the podium for the first time in the Chevrolet Revolution Tour in Sno Mountain , Pennsylvania as second in slopestyle. From December 2008 Kotsenburg started in the FIS-Nor-Am Cup. In the 2009/10 season he finished first overall at the Winter Dew Tour. At the Winter X Games Europe 2010 in Tignes , he won silver in the slopestyle. Two years later he repeated this success at the Winter X Games 2012 in Aspen . Before that, he won bronze in the Big Air competition at the Winter X Games 2011 in Aspen . In February 2011, he finished third in slopestyle at The Oakley Arctic Challenge in Oslo . At the 2012 Snowboard World Championships in Oslo, he came 17th in Slopestyle. At the subsequent US Snowboarding Grand Prix in Mammoth , he came in second place in slopestyle.

In December 2012, Kotsenburg won second place in the Big Air competition at the Dew Tour - Mountain Championships in Breckenridge . Kotsenburg made his debut in the Snowboard World Cup in January 2013 in Copper Mountain . After he was still fifth in the qualification for the slopestyle competition, he finished the race in 17th place. At the Snowboard World Championships in 2013 in Stoneham , he finished third in the slopestyle qualification and thus went into the race as one of the medal favorites, which he could only finish in 20th place.

At the beginning of the 2013/14 season, Kotsenburg took third place in Big Air at freestyle.ch in Zurich and second place at Air & Style in Beijing . At the World Cups in Špindlerův Mlýn in March and Copper Mountain in December 2013, he won the qualification, but in some cases clearly missed the podium in the competitions. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , Russia , for which he had qualified via the overall World Cup, Kotsenburg won the first ever Slopestyle competition on February 8, making it the first Olympic champion in this discipline. He finished the season on the World Snowboard Tour in third place in the Big Air overall ranking. At the Winter X Games 2015 , he finished seventh in Big Air and fifth in Slopestyle.
