Saint-Gouéno ( Gallo : Saent-Goéno , Breton Sant Gouenoù ) is a town and commune Déléguée in the French commune of Le Mené with 687 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Côtes-d'Armor in the region of Brittany . The inhabitants are called Gouénovais (es) .

Saint-Gouéno is located about 31 kilometers southeast of Saint-Brieuc and about 58 kilometers southwest of Saint-Malo in the eastern half of the Côtes-d'Armor department.

history

Stone axes found during archaeological excavations and an allée couverte that no longer exist show evidence of settlement in the Neolithic. In addition, remains from the Middle Ages have been excavated. The parish of Seint Goinou is mentioned in a document from Boquen Abbey from 1279 . In the 19th century, the area of ​​the municipality changed with two area swaps: On January 9, 1828, Saint-Gouéno received the hamlets of Kerfiac, Kermené, La Philippaie, Le Chauchy, La Ville-de-lait, Les Clôtures, Kerouet from the municipality of Plessala , Le Grand-Cas, Le Plat-des-Ogniaux and Le Cas du sable. On the same day she ceded the hamlets of La Villain and Le Mautray to the municipality of Saint-Gilles-du-Mené. On May 17, 1856 she again ceded the hamlets of Saint-Thia, la Hautaye, Launay-Moussu, la Viette, les Mintes and les Bignons to the municipality of Collinée. The municipality belonged to the Broons district from 1793 to 1801 and was part of the canton of Le Gourray. From 1801 to 1926 it was part of the Loudéac arrondissement and has since been part of the Dinan arrondissement. From 1801 to 2015 it was a municipality in the canton of Collinée .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the merger of all seven municipalities of the Communauté de communes du Mené, the new municipality Le Mené , to which Saint-Gouéno belongs. The municipality of Saint-Gouéno belonged to the Arrondissement of Dinan and the canton of Plénée-Jugon .

Population development

As a result of the hamlets that came to the community in 1828, the number of residents increased significantly between 1821 and 1831 (1821–1831: 33.6%). The growth continued until 1851. After that, the population decreased slightly until 1866. There was a second growth phase between 1891 and 1906 (1891–1911: + 14.9%). Due to the high number of dead and the many flu deaths, the population fell between 1911 and by 203 people (−11.8%). From 1926 until recently there was a strong rural exodus (1926–1999: −57.5%). The number of residents has grown slightly since the turn of the millennium.
