The Reformed Church of Saint-Laurent ( French Eglise réformée Saint-Laurent or Temple Saint-Laurent ) is a baroque church building in the district of the same name in Lausanne , Switzerland .

history

The old quarter of Saint-Laurent has had a parish church since the 11th century. The current church was built in 1716–1719 according to plans by Guillaume Delagrange . The Temple de la Fusterie in Geneva , consecrated in 1715 and in the Huguenot tradition, served as a model . From 1762–1763 the church was given a new facade by Rodolphe Crousaz .

description

Exterior

The small, free-standing hall church has a basement and two main floors. The two portals of the main facade are accessed by a mighty flight of stairs . They are equipped with early classicist -style garlands decorated. The portals flank a risalit , which is characterized by two powerful fluted pilasters . The second floor contains three arched windows and is a Metopes - triglyphs - Fries completed. Above that there is a cornice that runs around the entire church and above the central axis there is a triangular gable that shows the all -seeing eye of God in the gable field . The facade is tapered by massive volutes and merges into the incorporated tower . The sound window is crowned by a segmented gable. Above is the tower clock, the dial of which extends into a semicircular recess in the tower's helm. The tower helmet is designed as a Bernese hood , which is crowned by a lantern .

inner space

The simple interior corresponds to the Huguenot building scheme. It is characterized by a circumferential, wooden gallery that rests on a colonnade of Ionic order . The gallery at the end of the narrow side is occupied by an organ with two back positives . In front of it are the pulpit and the table for gifts from 1719, which can be seen from almost all parts of the nave .

The church is mainly illuminated by the arched windows above the galleries. The stained glass is by Louis Rivier (1924) and Henry Schimek (1955–1960).
