Saint George's Parish refers to an approximately 8.7 km² large administrative area of Bermuda with 4132 inhabitants (2016, area and inhabitants of the municipality of St. George’s not included).
The Parish, which is comparable to a district in German-speaking countries, is located in the east of the Bermuda archipelago and is formed by all the islands in Castle Harbor and Saint George's Harbor bordering on the east of the main Bermuda island of Grand Bermuda (including Saint George's Island and Saint David's Island ). However, a small area on the easternmost tip of the island of Grand Bermuda (Tuckers Town) is also part of the Parish, but not the urban area of the (independent) community of Saint George's. The Parish is only bordered by the Hamilton Parish to the west , directly to the east of Grand Bermuda and indirectly via The Causeway , a 1000 meter long roadway between Saint David's Island and the main Bermudian island.
The airport of Bermuda ( LF Wade International Airport ) is located in Saint George's Parish - on the artificially enlarged island of Saint David's . The former enlargement of the island for the purpose of building or expanding the airport has meant that Saint George's Parish is slightly larger in area than the other eight parishes.
The administrative area is named after the English admiral Sir George Somers (1554-1610), who founded the first settlements on the Bermuda Islands in 1609.
