Saint Kopp Schuss is a punk band from Marl ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). They were founded in November 2004. Musically, there are influences from classical punk, German rock and California punk .

history

2004–2005: The beginnings

The band was officially founded in November 2004 after Stephan Funke (guitar) and Gerrit van Geldern ( bass / vocals ) had been jamming for some time and found a suitable front voice in Christian Gröger. David Kellert was appointed 2nd guitarist and René Semelka was appointed drummer , so that the band was complete.

Saint Kopp Schuss made their first appearance on September 16, 2005 in a local youth center, where they played in front of less than 100 spectators. Later there were smaller appearances (200–400 visitors) in the Hot Hagenbusch cultural center, where the Toten Hosen played in their early days.

2006–2008: first successes

The first LP "Gedankenschungel" was created in 2006 at the SSE recording studio in Essen and contains six songs. Since there was no money for a large pressing, the band decided to produce everything in-house. With the appearance of the next LP, however, this was discontinued, so that only a very small edition of around 500 records is in circulation. Musically, influences from punk bands such as Wizo and Die Toten Hosen as well as elements of German rock (e.g. Die Böhsen Onkelz ) can be seen on this LP .

In 2006, Saint Kopp Schuss was the only punk band to be invited to the music camp in Celle , where they learned a lot about the music business in numerous workshops from professional musicians such as Martin Kessler ( H-Blockx / Abwärts ) and Henning Rümenapp ( Guano Apes ). Due to their work, only two band members could participate, so that some musician friends had to help out. Artists like Max Mutzke and the band Juli were also guests there.

Change of personnel

Shortly after the music camp, guitarist Stephan Funke left the band due to lack of time. They were now desperately looking for a new guitarist, whereupon their former school colleague Jan Fratzer came to play. This was actually at home in the California punk scene and therefore brought some influences into the band, which was previously said to have a rather " Onkelz- heavy" sound due to the hard guitar playing in combination with German lyrics . Since a single guitarist was a minimal solution, shortly afterwards Malte Berendes was hired as a rhythm guitarist , who was very inspired by Metallica .

In the meantime, René Semelka ( drums ) married his girlfriend and began studying alongside his job, so that there was no more time for the band. Heiko Galensa from Herne became his successor after a long period with numerous guest musicians .

The Polstock Festival

Since music events were rare in the Marl region , Saint Kopp Schuss decided to set up their own festival in collaboration with some friends. The venue was the beer garden of a friendly host in Dorsten , in which ten bands of various musical styles played in 2007 and 2008 . Unfortunately, since no larger venue could be found for 2009, the project was discontinued for the time being.

2008 - today: New albums, festivals and record deal

Immediately afterwards (September 2008) the LP "Monkeys throw with excrement!", Which was once again produced in the SSE Studio Essen, was released. The first edition of 1000 CDs was pressed. Musically there is a big difference to the 1st LP, as many guitar sounds can not hide their Californiapunk influences. Overall, however, Saint Kopp Schuss remains true to the music genres punk and German rock .

This year numerous appearances took place in Germany, including concerts (approx. 1500 visitors) in the Turbinenhalle Oberhausen , where Saint Kopp Schuss played together with bands such as Frei.Wild and Krebsholz .

In 2009 Saint Kopp Schuss went under contract with the label "Baumhaus Records" ( Herne ), which also took care of the production of the upcoming album. This was produced over the year 2009 in "Tonstudio1" Recklinghausen, where Jürgen Drews and other well-known greats in the region had already recorded.

In August 2010, Saint Kopp Schuss played at the GOND Festival in Bavaria, which attracted around 25,000 visitors. The album "once full frenzy and back", which had already been announced in spring, was, to the regret of the band, only finished after the festival and was released in September 2010.
