The GOND (abbreviation for Biggest Onkelz Night in Germany ) is a music festival that took place for the first time in June 2006 and has been taking place in Rieden-Kreuth ( Bavaria ) since 2009 . It is the world's largest tribute event in honor of the rock band Böhse Onkelz . In addition to cover bands from the Onkelz, mainly German rock and punk bands play at the festival .

history

Emergence

After the dissolution and the farewell festival Vaya Con Tioz of the Böhsen Onkelz in June 2005, the inventors and organizers of the GOND had the idea of ​​holding a small, regional and initially unique party in honor of the Onkelz in the coming year. The background was to celebrate a common party with the fans of the band, but also the common mourning about the breakup.

A hall with a capacity of 2,500 visitors was rented in Bad Rappenau near Heilbronn . The event was advertised under the slogan “Gröhste Onkelznacht Germany” from the start . The name was intended based on the band name.

Four weeks after the start of ticket sales, all tickets had already been sold, but the event was still more than six months away. After further inquiries from fans, the organizers decided to move the event to a larger location, as it could not be ruled out that further visitors would arrive without a ticket.

GOND 2006

June 9-11, 2006 in Mosbach

The event was relocated to the Großer Elzpark in Mosbach. The camping facilities and other musical acts were accommodated in and around the Livefactory in Adelsheim , approx. 25 km away . The Deutsche Bahn operated the shuttle service between Adelsheim and Mosbach with special trains.

GOND 2007

Although the first GOND was heavily improvised, the event received positive reviews. Because even more visitors were expected, a larger venue was needed, which was found in the Küffner Arena in Langenbrettach-Neudeck, which enables camping in the immediate vicinity of the concert area.

GOND 2008

Again a larger location had to be found. The decision was made to go to the Strohofer truck stop in Geiselwind on the A3 , where there should be enough campground space. Due to the direct connection of the festival area to the truck stop, there was a good infrastructure, with various restaurants, shops and a large event hall, in which the first concert took place on Thursday evening.

  • In the course of the event, a film was made that was released on DVD.
  • Despite calculations, the campsite was not completely sufficient, so it had to be expanded.
  • For the first time, we worked with the former Onkelz-Security IH-Security under the leadership of Onkelz manager Thomas Hess.
  • According to the organizer, 18,000 visitors came to GOND 2008.

Also in the fourth year you had to move to a larger area and found yourself at Gut Matheshof in Rieden-Kreuth in the Upper Palatinate . The area offered enough space for this event and, in the event of a further increase in visitors, also for the future, as well as two halls with the East Bavaria Hall and the Rieden Festival Hall. The after-show party took place every day in the Ostbayernhalle, to which the concert-goers were evacuated on Friday evening after a storm warning. According to the organizer, 18,000 fans visited GOND 2009 again.

GOND 2010

July 14-18, 2010 in Rieden-Kreuth

The GOND took place again in Rieden-Kreutham. The festival infrastructure was improved and the stage was relocated from the riding arena to a neighboring meadow due to the increased number of visitors to "over 20,000".

  • Since it was the fifth edition (" Jubiläums-GOND "), a DVD was recorded again during the festival.
  • The aftershow party took place again in the Festhalle Rieden.
  • On the parking deck next to the hall there was a side stage on which bands were playing in the early afternoon.
  • In order to spread the wave of arrival in time, it was possible to arrive on Wednesday evening. That did not bring the hoped-for result: the majority of the visitors arrived on Wednesday, while Thursday morning was only used insignificantly.

The GOND was back at Gut Matheshof. The number of tickets was limited in advance to 20,000, which is why the GOND was sold out in May.

  • A sampler called “ TRIBUTE ” was released in advance , on which various GOND bands contributed a song specially written for it and thematically linked to the Böhsen Onkelz.
  • The sanitary situation has been significantly improved.
  • The aftershow party took place again in the festival hall in Rieden.
  • There was no side stage, instead the concerts on the open-air stage started much earlier.

For the fourth time the GOND took place at Gut Matheshof. As in the previous year, the number of tickets was limited to 20,000 tickets. On April 12, 2012 the GOND was officially sold out.

  • There was again a side stage in the festival hall in Rieden. As in the previous year, the after-show party took place there.
  • The concerts took place from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on the secondary stage, then on the main stage.
  • For the first time, LED screens were used to broadcast the concerts live on the main stage.
  • For the first appearance in the line-up of the day, the “Pay to Play” campaign was started, in which the band that offered the maximum amount won. The total proceeds of € 4,750 will be donated in full to the self-help group for children with cancer in Amberg-Sulzbach e. V. donated.

For the fifth time, the GOND venue was Gut Matheshof. Again only 20,000 cards were made available. Unlike in previous years, GOND was only sold out on June 23, 2013.

  • In 2013 there was again a side stage in the Festhalle Rieden, on which three bands played each afternoon. For the first time, an Onkelz cover band played at the aftershow party from 2 to 3 a.m. before AGF radio took over the entertainment.
  • The fans were able to donate the garbage deposit , the "GOND Commando" also collected donations and the organizers also took part. This raised € 3,000, which was donated to Aktion Deutschland Hilft - the alliance of aid organizations e. V. were donated.
  • First of all, there were only flushed toilet trucks in both the infield and the campsite, which were looked after by staff around the clock.

  • So far, two DVDs have been released about the festival (2008 & 2010).
  • The original name "Gröhste Onkelznacht Germany" has not been used since GOND 2007 for trademark reasons. Since then, the event has been called "GOND" with the slogan "Den Onkelz is a festival" .
  • Many of the sayings on GOND merchandising articles (T-shirts, caps, etc.) refer to passages from Onkelz songs.
  • The South Tyrolean band Frei.Wild had their first major appearance at GOND in 2007 in front of over 10,000 visitors
  • After every GOND, visitors are asked an online survey. In addition, bands, infrastructure, etc. can be assessed by assigning grades.
  • For the GOND 2008 the so-called " Loyalty Oath " was published, on which various singers and musicians from the various bands perform an anthem written and composed especially for the GOND.
  • The first sampler "TRIBUTE" came out at GOND 2011 , on which various GOND bands published a specially written and composed song that had something to do with the festival and the Onkelz.
  • "GOND-TV" has been around since April 16, 2009 . The two main organizers "Kiedi" and "Timo" provide information about the festival here.
