Supply problems

The water shortage in South Africa since 2015 has also hit this region. In the municipal council meeting on October 29, 2018, rationing for the individual water consumption of the local population was reduced from the previous level 6B to 5 by resolution. This resulted in maximum consumption values such as 100 liters for each person per day and a maximum of 15,000 liters per month for residential properties. Commercial and industrial users should reduce their water consumption by 40% if they can.

The use of the municipal drinking water supply for gardens is therefore permitted daily for a maximum of two hours from 06:00 to 08:00 in the morning or from 19:00 to 21:00 in the evening, provided that the consumer remains within the limit of 15,000 liters per month. This includes the irrigation of private flower beds, lawns and vegetable crops, further agricultural areas and other plantings, sports fields, golf courses, schools, other educational institutions, tree nurseries, parks and other open spaces.
