The Salem Township is one of twelve townships in Carroll County in the northwest of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois .

The Salem Township is located northwest of Illinois about 20 km east of the Mississippi , which forms the border with Iowa . The Wisconsin border is around 50 km north.
The Salem Township lies at 42 ° 03'38 "north latitude and 89 ° 55'25" west longitude and extends over 92.2 km².
Salem Township is located in the center of Carroll County and borders on Freedom Township in the north, Cherry Grove-Shannon Township in the northeast, Rock Creek-Lima Township in the east, Wysox Township in the southeast, and Fairhaven in the south Township , to the southwest to York Township , to the west to Mount Carroll Township and to the northwest to Woodland Township .

US Highway 52 runs through the north of the township in an east-west direction on a joint route with Illinois State Route 64 . In the northwest, Illinois State Route 40 branches off to the southeast from the highway . This junction is also their north-western end point. The western border of the township is formed by Illinois State Route 78 . All other roads are county roads and sub-roads that are only partially paved.
Two railroad lines run through the township and run west from Chicago .
