The Salmon River (in Québec : Rivière aux Saumons ; literally " salmon -flow") is a right tributary of the St. Lawrence River in the State of New York and the Canadian province of Quebec.
The Salmon River has its origin in Loon Lake in the Adirondack Mountains . It flows in a predominantly north-northwest direction through Franklin County . He passes the cities of Malone and Fort Covington . At Fort Covington, the Little Salmon River joins the river from the left. In Québec, the Salmon River covers only 6 km before it flows into Lac Saint-François , which is traversed by the Saint Lawrence River, 15 km east of Cornwall . In Québec, the cantonal parish of Dundee is located on the riverbank. The Salmon River is approximately 75 km in length.
Hydropower plants
Brookfield Power operates two run-of-river power plants on the Salmon River:
- The Chasm hydropower plant ( ⊙ ) with 4 MW (3 turbines) is located 10 km south of Malone below the Chasm Falls waterfall.
- The Macomb hydropower plant ( ⊙ ) is located 4 km north of Malone with an output of 1 MW (1 turbine).
