Salnyzja ( Ukrainian Сальниця ; Russian Сальница Salniza , Polish Salnikh / Salints ) is a village in the northwest of the Ukrainian Oblast Vinnytsia with about 2500 inhabitants (2001).
Salnyzja is the administrative center of the same name, 7.57 km² district council in the north of Khmilnyk Rajon , to which the village of Hnatiwka ( Гнатівка , ⊙ ) with about 350 inhabitants belongs.
history
The village, founded in the 16th century on the “Black Way”, one of the streets used by the Tatars on their raids to Volhynia , was granted Magdeburg city rights in 1607 . During the Khmelnytsky Uprising , the city was in June 1648 Zaporozhye Cossacks led by Maksym Krywonis conquered and almost completely destroyed, but arrived after the 1652 closed Treaty of Zboriv again Poland-Lithuania and was rebuilt in the early 18th century, attached. In 1722 the city was confirmed the privileges granted in 1607 by the Polish king. On April 25th and 26th, 1786, Russian troops on their way from Ljubar to Chmilnyk attacked the city and fought with the Polish troops. On June 5, 1792, the privileges of 1607 were confirmed again and after the Russo-Polish War of 1792 , the city came to the Russian Empire after the Second Partition of Poland in 1793 . In 1831 the Russian Emperor Nicholas I revoked the Magdeburg town charter for Salnyzja and the town sank, also due to the loss of its strategic importance, to a large village by the beginning of the 20th century.
Geographical location
The village lies at an altitude of 274 m on the bank of the 18 km long Salnyzka ( Сальницька ), which flows into the Snywoda ( Снивода ), a 58 km long left tributary of the Southern Bug . Salnyzja is located 27 km north of the Rajonzentrum Khmilnyk and 80 km northwest of the Oblastzentrum Vinnytsia .
