Salvador Mas i Conde

Salvador Mas i Conde (born February 27, 1951 in Barcelona ) is a Catalan conductor.

life and work

Salvador Mas received his musical training from 1959 to 1965, initially at the Escolania de Montserrat . From 1965 to 1974 he studied at the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona . From 1970 to 1974 he was a student of Antoni Ros i Marbà's conducting there . During this time he also studied Romance philology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona . He completed in-depth studies in Vienna (1974–1977) with Hans Swarowsky , Karl Österreicher , Otmar Suitner , Günther Theuring , in Salzburg with Bruno Maderna (1969) and in Siena with Franco Ferrara (1971). In 1980 Mas won first prize at the II. Hans Swarowsky Competition in Vienna.

In 1977 he was director of the Mainz City Theater . From 1978 to 1981 he directed the Orquestra Ciutat de Barcelona . From 1983 to 1985 he was guest conductor of the Orfeó Català . From 1985 to 1991 he was musical director of the Württemberg Philharmonic in Reutlingen , from 1988 to 1994 of the Limburg Symfonie Orkest in Maastricht and from 1993 to 1999 of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker . From 1998 to 2001 he was also the musical director of the Israel Chamber Orchestra in Tel Aviv. From 2008 to 2012 he directed the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada (Orchestra of the City of Granada). Mas has regularly received invitations to conduct guest performances with the radio orchestras of Berlin, Leipzig, Saarbrücken and, in the Netherlands, also from the Munich Philharmonic .

Mas led the conducting classes of the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya and was director of this Barcelona music school from 2005 to 2008. Mas is currently teaching at the Vienna master classes for conducting .
