Salvatore Luigi Zola CRL (born April 12, 1822 in Pozzuoli , † April 27, 1898 in Cavallino ) was an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Lecce .

Life

He was the second child of Count Francesco Zola and his wife Giuseppina di Fraja. On January 1, 1845, Salvatore Luigi Zola joined the Augustinian Canons of the Lateran and on February 9, 1845 received the sacrament of ordination .

Pope Gregory XVI appointed him on March 21, 1873 Bishop of Ugento . He received his episcopal ordination on March 30th of the same year in the Roman Church of San Pietro in Vincoli by Cardinal Lorenzo Barili , Prefect of the Congregation for Indulgences and Relics ; Co-consecrators were the Curia Archbishops Pietro Giannelli , Secretary of the Council Congregation , and Edward Henry Howard . On June 22nd, 1877, Salvatore Luigi Zola was transferred to the Episcopal See of Lecce.

He died in the reputation of holiness and was buried in the cathedral of Lecce. A canonization process began on April 26, 1941, completed in 1945, and suspended in December 1985.
