Salvatore Ronald Matano (born September 15, 1946 in Providence ) is an American clergyman and bishop of Rochester .

Life

The Rector of the Pontifical North America College , James Aloysius Hickey , ordained him a priest on December 17, 1971 .

Pope John Paul II named him Coadjutor Bishop of Burlington on March 3, 2005 . The Apostolic Nuncio in the USA , Gabriel Montalvo Higuera , donated him episcopal ordination on April 19 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Sean Patrick O'Malley OFMCap , Archbishop of Boston , and Kenneth Anthony Angell , Bishop of Burlington. As a motto he chose In Unitatem Fidei .

After Kenneth Anthony Angell's retirement , he succeeded him on November 9, 2005 as Bishop of Burlington.

On November 6, 2013, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Rochester. The inauguration took place on January 3 of the following year.
