Nnamka Samson Ebukam (born May 9, 1995 in Nigeria ) is a Nigerian American football player on the position of outside linebacker . He currently plays for the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL .

college

Ebukam played for the Eastern Washington Eagles at Eastern Washington University as a linebacker for four years . Eastern Washington is a comparatively small college and part of the Big Sky Conference . In his four seasons he scored a total of 188 tackles and 24 sacks .

NFL

Samson Ebukam was drafted 125th in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams . He signed a contract for four years in the amount of just over 3 million US dollars . Ebukam got jersey number 50 at the Rams. In his rookie season 2017 Ebukam played in each of the 16 regular season games, including 2 games as a starter. He was able to achieve 31 tackles and 2 sacks for the Rams and reached the playoffs with them .

Ebukam played the first 10 games as a starter for the Rams in his second NFL season ( 2018 ) and forced 3 fumbles and 2 sacks in these games. In week 11 against the Kansas City Chiefs , he was not used as a starter for the first time in the season, but he delivered the most successful game of his professional career and scored two touchdowns . On his first touchdown, he picked up a fumble , forced by Aaron Donald , and carried it back into the end zone. Ebukam also caught the first interception of his professional career and scored a touchdown with the intercepted pass. Ebukam contributed 12 points to the 54:51 victory, the encounter was the first game in NFL history in which both teams could score more than 50 points.

Ebukam finished the regular season with 40 tackles, three forced fumbles and three sacks. Together with the Rams, Ebukam started a deep playoff run and reached Super Bowl LIII with them . Here, however, he had to admit defeat to the New England Patriots . In his third season in the NFL ( 2019 ), Ebukam was able to improve statistically and at the end of the season he had 4.5 sacks and 48 tackles. However, the Rams could not match the good team performance of the previous year and Ebukam missed the NFL playoffs for the first time in his career.
