The joint municipality of Hitzacker (Elbe) was a joint municipality in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony . Three communities were united in it to carry out their administrative business. The administrative seat of the community was Hitzacker .
On November 1, 2006, it merged with the Dannenberg (Elbe) community to form the new Elbtalaue community.

Joint community structure
The joint municipality of Hitzacker (Elbe) comprised the following regional authorities since January 1, 1972 :
- The community of Göhrde - 40.71 km² - 708 Ew.
- The city of Hitzacker (Elbe) - 58.44 km² - 5,057 Ew.
- The community Neu Darchau - 22.64 km² - 1,522 Ew.
The Lower Saxony State Office for Statistics does not include the community-free area of Göhrde as part of the Hitzacker (Elbe) community. The size of 121.61 km² included the three member communities alone.

All in all, these 7,287 inhabitants lived on 173.60 km² (42.0 inhabitants / km²) or, without taking into account the community-free area, on 121.79 km² (59.8 people / km²).
