The joint congregation was formed in 1972 from 16 formerly independent congregations that were merged into the five current member congregations.

Joint council

Joint mayor of the municipality
Christian Järnecke (CDU) is the full-time mayor of the joint municipality of Gartow. In the last mayoral election on May 25, 2014, he was elected with 58.8% of the vote. His opponent Dieter Maurischat (SPD) received 41.2%. The turnout was 68.9%. Järnecke took up his term in office on November 1, 2014, replacing the previous incumbent Friedrich-Wilhelm Schröder, who was no longer running.
