Samuel Friedrich Moser (entrepreneur)

Samuel Friedrich Moser (born October 9, 1808 in Scheidegg, today part of the Herzogenbuchsee community ; † February 6, 1891 , reformed , resident in Herzogenbuchsee) was a Swiss merchant , farmer and co-owner of a silk ribbon weaving mill founded in 1720 .

Life

Samuel Friedrich Moser was born on October 9, 1808 in Scheidegg as the son of the tape merchant and politician Johannes Moser (1777–1821) and Barbara Schneeberger. In addition to his involvement in his family's tape goods business, Moser was the head of an innovative agricultural business. As such, he tried his hand at growing hops , for example . To this end, in his role as President of the cheese cooperative , he initiated technical improvements in cheese production . He also acted as co-founder and secretary of the Oberaargau Cattle Breeding Society. He also held the office of president of the local council in Herzogenbuchsee.

In addition, in 1847, Moser secretly bought grain abroad on behalf of the Bernese government. In the same year he served in the Swiss Army with the rank of captain in the Sonderbund War . In addition, Moser, a friend of Jeremias Gotthelf , published writings on the poor.

Moser married Verena Amalia (1808–1861), the daughter of the Langenthal doctor Johann Friedrich Gugelmann (1755–1815) , in 1836 . He died on February 6, 1891, four months after turning 82 in Scheidegg. Samuel Friedrich Moser was the father of twelve children, including the daughter Amélie and the sons Emil and Robert .
