The windcock is 517  m above sea level. NN the highest elevation of the Siegerland Northern Hellerbergland , a mountain range often also called Windhahn , on the northeast border between Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia .

It is separated by the Niederschelden-Betzdorfer Siegtal der Sieg from the north-west adjoining Giebelwald and by the Mittlere Hellertal der Heller from the south adjoining southern Hellerbergland .

Geographical location

In the north-east of Rhineland-Palatinate, the wooded Windhahn is not far from the state border with North Rhine-Westphalia, which is 2.3 km to the east, on the boundary of the core town of Kirchen, about 3 km to the west-north-west . At the west foot of the mountain is Offhausen, which belongs to Kirchen, and at its east foot, but still west of the state border, is the village of Dermbach, part of the city of Herdorf . About 10 km to the northeast is Siegen as a regiopole and southeastern North Rhine-Westphalian regional center .

1.75 km west-southwest of the Windhahn is the 431  m above sea level. NN high rock formation of the natural monument Druidenstein . Opposite on the North Rhine-Westphalian side is about 5.2 km east-northeast of 499.2  m above sea level. NN high Pfannenberg , which is equipped with a lookout tower. Both are also hills in the northern Hellerbergland.

Almost 4.5 km southeast of the Windhahn beyond the Heller lies the 509.3  m above sea level. NN high Mahlscheid . Opposite, beyond the victory , is just 5.5 km north-northwest of the 527.2  m above sea level. NN high Giebelberg .
