Samuel Palthen , also Palthenius , ennobled by Palthen in 1726 , (born August 14, 1679 in Rostock , † October 17, 1750 in Wismar ) was a Swedish-Pomeranian lawyer and vice-president of the Wismar Higher Tribunal .

Life

The son of the court secretary Johann Palthen († 1708) and his wife Dorothea, daughter of the Wolgast councilor Michael Hoppe, was born in Rostock, where his parents sought refuge during the Swedish-Brandenburg War . After the end of the war, the family returned to Greifswald , where he attended the city ​​school and university . In addition to law , he studied philosophy, history and fine arts . After holding two disputations , he continued his studies at the University of Jena . After an educational trip through various cities, he settled in Greifswald as a lawyer in 1707 .

In the same year he became an auditor in the regiment of Lieutenant General von Schulz and the garrison in Stralsund . In 1709 he went to Poland as a war secretary with the Swedish troops from Pomerania . He took on the same function in 1710 in the corps of General Ernst Detlof von Krassow (* around 1660; † 1714). After withdrawing from Poland, he followed Lieutenant General von Schulz as Secretary of the Government to Wismar . After the conquest of Wismar by Prussian-Danish troops in 1716, he went to Sweden.

He was first sent as a secret commission secretary with Herr von Adlerfeld on a diplomatic mission to the Danish court. He then accompanied Baron von Trautvetter to negotiations in advance of the peace from Stockholm to Hanover , Berlin , Warsaw and Dresden .

In 1721 he was appointed protonotary at the Wismar Higher Tribunal. In 1726 he was appointed assessor of the tribunal and together with his brother Jakob (1683–1743) raised to the nobility. From 1729 until the end of his life he was Vice-President of the Tribunal. In 1748 he was awarded the North Star Order .

The lawyer Jakob and the historian Johann Philipp Palthen were Samuel Palthen's brothers.
