Samuil Vulcan (1760–1839), Bishop of Oradea 1807–1839

Samuil Vulcan (born October 1760 in Blaj ( German : Blasendorf , ung: Balázsfalva ), Transylvania , Romania ; † December 25, 1839 in Oradea ) was Bishop of Oradea Mare (Großwardein) of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church .

Life

Samuil (Samuel) Vulcan attended elementary school and secondary school, studied at the Academy in Oradea , went to Vienna to study theology and was ordained a priest in 1784 . In 1785 he went to Lemberg for further studies . In 1790 he became a member of the cathedral chapter in Oradea. On September 12, 1806 he was elected Bishop of Oradea. This choice was confirmed on March 23, 1807 by Pope Pius VII . He was ordained bishop on June 7, 1807 by Ioan Bob , the bishop of Făgăraş . He completed the cathedral church in Oradea, founded a Greek-Catholic high school in 1836, he was royal advisor.

He died on December 25, 1839, and was buried in the new cathedral.
