The Eparchy of Oradea Mare ( lat. : Dioecesis Magnovaradinensis Romenorum , rum. : Eparhia de Oradea Mare ) is in Romania located Diocese of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church based in Oradea (Oradea). It includes the screeching area .
history
Pope Pius VI founded on June 23, 1777 the diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Indefessum in the area of the Roman Catholic diocese Oradea Mare . The region was part of the historical Partium Province and just like the Banat , South Bukovina , Sathmar Region and Maramuresh . It is not part of historical Transylvania , but is often included today (especially in Hungary). It belongs to the Grand Archbishopric of Făgăraș and Alba Iulia .
On November 26, 1853, she lost part of the territory to the Diocese of Lugoj .
After the death of Bishop Valeriu Traian Frențiu , who was sentenced to death without trial during the communist persecution, Auxiliary Bishop Iuliu Hirțea led them out of hiding. After the end of the communist dictatorship, an orderly hierarchy was restored in 1990.
