San Pedro Church

The Roman Catholic parish church of San Pedro ( Aragonese Sant Per de Larrede ) in Lárrede , a district of the municipality Sabiñánigo in the Spanish province of Huesca of the autonomous community of Aragon , was built in the 10th or 11th century. The church has been a protected architectural monument since 1931 ( Bien de Interés Cultural ).

history

The church, consecrated to the Apostle Peter , is attributed by some researchers to the Mozarabic architecture (built around 960 to 1000) and by others to the Romanesque architecture (built around 1050 to 1060).

The church, which has not been changed over the centuries, underwent extensive restoration in 1933. The last renovation took place in the 1960s.

architecture

The plan of the church is a Latin cross . The nave and the semicircular choir are made of carefully worked stone . The choir has seven blind arcades , above which a frieze with round bars is attached. A simple, arched portal is on the south side.

The rectangular tower is very high compared to the church. The last floor is broken up on all four sides by triplet windows, which are framed by an Alfiz .
