As is customary in Japan, she is a biathlete of the "winter combat training unit" of the ground self-defense forces . Sanae Takano made her international debut in Östersund in the Biathlon World Cup in 2002 , where she qualified as 53rd in a sprint for the pursuit race, in which she did not, however, take part. A week later, the Japanese Lahti started a relay race and was ninth at the side of Ikuyo Tsukidate , Tamami Tanaka and Kanae Meguro . In the 2002/03 season , Takano started regularly in the World Cup. The high point of the season was the 2003 biathlon world championships in Khanty-Mansiysk . In the individual she was 69th, 40th in the sprint and did not finish as a lapped runner in the pursuit race. In the relay race she started as a starting runner and finished 13th with Tanaka, Tsukidate and Kanako Noguchi . Shortly before the World Cup, the Japanese competed in the Winter Asian Games in her home town of Aomori , where she was ninth in the sprint and tenth in the pursuit and with Tanaka, Tsukidate and Kanae Suzuki won the silver medal behind the Chinese in the relay race. The following season , Takano achieved her best World Cup result as 38th of a sprint in Osrblie .
