The Hansaport in Hamburg-Altenwerder is part of the Port of Hamburg and has been Germany's largest seaport terminal for bulk goods ( iron ore and coal ) since 1977 . The operator is Hansaport Hafenbetriebsgesellschaft mbH , a joint subsidiary of Salzgitter AG and Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA).

Seagoing vessels lying in the Sandauhafen are unloaded with the help of four discharge bridges , each with a hook load of 38 t. Depending on the size of the ship and the type of cargo, up to 100,000 tons can be unloaded in 24 hours at the ship quay , which is over 760 meters long . The greater part of the further transport takes place by rail , the smaller part is carried out by inland waterways . The Port Authority has its own train station with 15 tracks .

On the Hansaport site, 350,000 m² of space is available for the temporary storage of bulk goods.

In 2014, 8,862,000 t of iron ore and 5,460,000 t of coal were handled at Hansaport. Until 2001, feed, fertilizer, building materials and other goods were also handled here. The transshipment operation runs with large transshipment bridges that have been automated since the beginning of the 2010s. There is a smaller transshipment bridge for transshipment to inland waterway vessels , which will also be converted for automated operation in 2015. Around 70% of the onward transport of the ores and coal that land is carried out by rail . For this purpose, block trains with special wagons, e.g. B. 4 times a day ore trains for steel production to Salzgitter and Eisenhüttenstadt , coal trains to coal-fired power plants in Wolfsburg, Fallersleben, Salzgitter and Braunschweig.

The data exchange for the creation of the freight documents takes place via a direct link to the EDI system of the railway company concerned .
