from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sandra Elaine Allen (born June 18, 1955 in Chicago , Illinois , † August 13, 2008 in Shelbyville , Indiana ) was an American height record holder who stood with her 2.32 m since 1976 in the Guinness Book of Records . The Chinese Yao Defen , who died in November 2012, set a new record with 2.36 m.

Life

Sandra Elaine Allen's unusual size was the result of a tumor in her pituitary gland that released growth hormones in an uncontrolled manner. Only at the age of 22 could the growth be stopped by a surgical intervention, without which she would have continued to grow.

Allen wrote an autobiographical book about her life (Cast A Giant Shadow) and has appeared in various films, including Oscar-winning Fellini's Casanova . The band Split Enz from New Zealand wrote a song about it, which on the album Time and Tide was published by the 1982nd

Due to her enormous size, she was recently dependent on a wheelchair, as her body could no longer withstand the stress of standing. Allen had withdrawn from public life in a nursing home years ago, where she died on August 13, 2008 at the age of 53.
