history

The village of Sand Scheid, named after the local place names "in the sand Scheid" and "On the sand Scheid" arose only after the construction of a opened in 1898 Catholic elementary school . The catchment area of the school included Bennerscheid, Berghausen, Pützstück, Sand and Waschpohl. Around 1900 a farm was added across the street from the school building . Between 1952 and 1954 Sand Scheid received its own chapel, which at first only for school church services was used. A paved road ran through the village until it was fully expanded in the 1960s .

In 1965 the elementary school was converted into a Catholic elementary school, which, when it was founded, moved into a newly constructed building in Sandscheid. The old school building, expanded by an extension, housed a Catholic kindergarten from 1972 . After the primary school closed, its previous building served as accommodation for resettlers and asylum seekers in the 1990s . At that time, the Catholic kindergarten moved to Oberpleis, whereupon a new kindergarten under private management was established by 2000. It was initially located in the former primary school building, but moved to the former primary school building in 2002. The primary school building was demolished in 2007.
