Santissimi Nomi di Gesù e Maria in via Lata is a Roman parish church that was founded on June 7, 1967 by Pope Paul VI. has been raised to title diakonia .
history
In the 17th century there was a villa with a garden belonging to Antonio Orsini , grandson of Cardinal Flavio Orsini , in the area of the church . In 1615 the property was bought by the Augustinian Discalceaten to build their seat in Rome and a seminarist home. There was also a church of St. Anthony here , but it was unsuitable for the order.
The construction was done in two phases. The foundation stone was laid on April 3, 1633 and the first part designed by Carlo Buzio was completed in 1635. On January 17th, 1636 the solemn departure of the community from Santa Maria del Popolo took place. The original Augustinian order remained there. The second part of the church and the facade were built between 1671 and 1674 under the direction of Carlo Tainaldi. The church was consecrated on January 28, 1675. Between 1678 and 1690, with the generosity of Giorgio Bolognetti , Bishop of Rieti , the marble interior was installed.
On June 7, 1967 she was by Pope Paul VI. elevated to title diakonia.
