In Sartilly, in the cemetery there is a memorial to Théophile Maupas, one of the Caporaux de Souain who were executed as an example of a mutiny during the First World War . This monument was erected in 1925, before the corporals were rehabilitated on March 3, 1934. The film of the same name by Stanley Kubrick was based on this novel .
