Monument Funéraire des caporaux de Souains

In Sartilly, in the cemetery there is a memorial to Théophile Maupas, one of the Caporaux de Souain who were executed as an example of a mutiny during the First World War . This monument was erected in 1925, before the corporals were rehabilitated on March 3, 1934. The incident of Caporaux de Souain has significant parallels to the novel Paths of Glory (original title: Paths of Glory ) by Humphrey Cobb . The film of the same name by Stanley Kubrick was based on this novel .
