Until the reorganization, the canton of Avranches consisted of the 16 municipalities of Avranches , Chavoy , La Godefroy , La Gohannière , Marcey-les-Grèves , Plomb , Pontaubault , Ponts , Saint-Brice , Saint-Jean-de-la-Haize , Saint-Loup , Saint-Martin-des-Champs , Saint-Ovin , Saint-Senier-sous-Avranches , Vains and Le Val-Saint-Père . Its layout corresponded to an area of 92 km 2 .
Like Le Mesnil-Ozenne, La Boulouze was an independent municipality until 1973 and belonged to the canton of Ducey . Then they were added to the municipality of Saint-Ovin, but remained with the canton of Ducey. Le Mesnil-Ozenne became an independent municipality again in 1985.
