Marcey-les-Greves is a French commune with 1,284 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy .

geography

Marcey-les-Grèves is located on the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, northwest of Avranches . The Sée flows between the two communities. The D973 , which connects Avranches with Granville , crosses the village.

history

The municipality was named Marcey-les-Grèves in 1937. In 1801 it was still called Marcé and Marcey . The municipal administration she received in 1793 in the course of the French Revolution as Marcé.

The place used to be a barony , as is the 18th century Château de Marcey. Today the former castle is used as a villa after the upper floor was destroyed.

Culture and sights

The Saint-Pair church was originally built in the 16th century, but largely rebuilt in the 20th century. In the church there is a stone statue of Mary with the child from the 16th century. The statue was classified as a Monument historique (historical monument) in 1939 .
