Chaulieu (until the French Revolution: Saint-Martin-de-Chaulieu ) is a French municipality with 295 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy . The municipality is part of the Avranches arrondissement and the Mont-Saint-Michel-Normandie municipality .
geography
Chaulieu is located in the Norman hill country ( Collines de Normandie ), about twelve kilometers south of Vire Normandie on the border with the departments of Calvados and Orne . Chaulieu is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vire-Normandie in the north, Saint-Christophe-de-Chaulieu in the east and Sourdeval in the south and west. The coastal river Vire rises on the border with the municipality of Vire-Normandie .
