Isigny-le-Buat is a French municipality with 3319 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Avranches and is the only and main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Isigny-le-Buat . The inhabitants are called Isignois .
geography
Isigny-le-Buat is bounded in the south by the river Sélune . Isigny-le-Buat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Le Grand-Celland and La Chapelle-Urée in the north, Reffuveille in the northeast, Le Mesnillard and Martigny in the east, Virey in the southeast, Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët with Saint-Martin-de -Landelles in the south, Saint-Laurent-de-Terregatte in the south-west, Ducey-Les Chéris with Ducey and Les Chéris in the west and Marcilly and Le Mesnil-Ozenne in the north-west.
history
In 1969 the municipality was formed from the former municipalities of Isigny and Le Buat . In 1973 it merged with the municipalities of Les Biards , Chalandrey , La Mancellière , Le Mesnil-Bœufs , Le Mesnil-Thébault , Montgothier , Montigny , Naftel and Vezins .
