Pontorson is a French commune with 4,342 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy . The city is the capital of the canton of Pontorson in the Avranches arrondissement .

It was created with effect from January 1, 2016 by merging the former municipalities of Pontorson , Macey and Vessey to form a Commune nouvelle of the same name . The former municipalities have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative seat is in the village of Pontorson.
