Culture and sights

Notre-Dame church in Pontorson

One of the sights is the Notre Dame church from the 11th and 12th centuries, it was built by the same people as the Mont Saint-Michel on the basis of a vow made by William the Conqueror. In the Romanesque and early Gothic style, it dominates its surroundings through its powerful appearance and through the entrance area adorned by two Romanesque turrets and various sculptures.

There is also an old Protestant church or a former tithe barn. She is a rare witness to an important period in the history of Normandy. The church is the only Protestant building of the Manche before the revocation of the Edict of Nantes .

House Guischard de la Ménardière (called the “Romanesque House”): this building was probably built in the 12th century. Despite various renovations in the 14th, 15th and 18th centuries, it has retained the appearance of a manor on which you can read the inscription of the Guischard family (1719).

The former seat of the Counts of Montgomery is now a hotel and restaurant. The floors, the painted ceilings, the woodwork and the grand staircase are also evidence of this era.

The old station of Pontorson, which illustrates the important role of the railway in the city's history.

Moidrey Mill from 1806. In early 2000 it was completely overhauled and restored. Flour is being ground there again today.
