Ducey is a village and a former French commune with 2,531 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Manche department in the region of Normandy . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Avranches and the Canton of Pontorson .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Ducey and Les Chéris were merged to form a Commune nouvelle with the name Ducey-Les Chéris and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are located in Ducey.

geography

Ducey is about ten kilometers southeast of Avranches and about five kilometers from the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel .

The area touches the river Sélune , in the north runs the river Oir , which flows into the Sélune.

history

In the twelfth century, Guillaume de Ducey ruled . He was a descendant of a Duci (or Dixi) and possibly a companion of the Viking Rollo . Around 1370 it came into the hands of the Fralin de Husson. It was confiscated by Henry V of England in 1418 and ruled by Guillaume Nessefeld . In 1521 the Montgomery family acquired the rule and inherited it until 1711. Gabriel de Montgomery, Lord of Ducey (* 1530) went down in French history because he accidentally fatally killed King Henry II at a tournament on July 10, 1559 has wounded. His son, Gabriel II, built Ducey Castle in 1624.
