Sascha Kraus

Sascha Kraus (born May 20, 1974 in Cologne ) is a German economist and professor of management.

Sascha Kraus studied business administration at the University of Cologne and the University of Siegen (graduated in 2001). He then completed an MBA with the subject combination “Marketing”, “Business start-up & economic development” and “International Management & Organization” at the University of Wuppertal (graduation 2003) and a Master of Leadership at the University of Southern Queensland , Australia (graduation 2005) - parallel to his work as a university assistant at the University of Klagenfurt, where he received his doctorate in 2006 with distinction as a doctorate in social and economic sciences (Dr. rer. soc. oec.) (subject combination: “Innovation Management & Business Creation” and “International Management & Marketing”). During his doctorate, he spent three months as a visiting research scholar at the University of Edinburgh , Great Britain, with a scholarship from the Republic of Austria.

From the end of 2005 to 2007 Kraus worked as a research assistant at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg , after which he was the professor for Entrepreneurship, Intrapreneurship & Innovation at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences until 2008 . In 2008, Kraus was employed as an Evald and Hilda Nissi Foundation International Fellow at the Department for Management of the University of Vaasa , Finland, for four months as part of a research grant and worked for one month as a HaSS Visiting Professor at the Center for Knowledge, Innovation, Technology & Enterprise (KITE) from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne , Great Britain and as EECPCL Participating Professor at Harvard Business School , Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

At the end of 2008, at the age of 34, he was appointed university professor and holder of the chair for entrepreneurship at the University of Utrecht , Netherlands. Since the beginning of 2009 he has been a professor (since 2012 associate professor; since 2015 professor) with a focus on internationalization, strategy and entrepreneurship at the University of Liechtenstein . In 2009 Kraus obtained a second doctorate (Ph.D.) in "Industrial Engineering & Management" (with distinction) from the Helsinki University of Technology (now: Aalto University ), and in 2010 the license to teach (Venia Docendi) in business administration at Lappeenranta University of Technology (both Finland). In the same year he was awarded the "Senior University Teaching Qualification" (Seniorkwalificatie Onderwijs) of the University of Utrecht, the highest Dutch university teaching qualification. In 2018, Kraus ended his almost ten years at the University of Liechtenstein and followed a call to a research professorship for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at the École Supérieure du Commerce Extérieur (ESCE), a Grande École in Paris. From 2013 to 2014 Kraus was visiting professor for “International Small Business Management” at the University of St. Gallen , since 2015 at the Copenhagen Business School .

In addition to his current activities, Kraus was and is a lecturer at the University of Twente , Enschede, the Netherlands, the Montpellier Business School , France, the Autonomous University of Barcelona , the University of Girona , both Spain, the European University Viadrina , Frankfurt / Oder, the HHL Leipzig , the JKU Linz , the University of Siegen and the Vienna University of Economics and Business . He was also editor-in-chief of the Zeitschrift für KMU & Entrepreneurship (ZfKE) and the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Venturing (IJEV) until 2015. He is also Country Ambassador of the Academy of Management (AoM) Entrepreneurship Division and was Country Vice President of the European Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ECSB) from 2007 to 2012. According to the current Wirtschaftswoche 2019 ranking, Kraus is currently ranked no.6 and one of the 10 best published German-speaking business economists (last five years) (after no.19 in the 2014 Handelsblatt ranking). He gained practical experience primarily through founding and managing a venture capital-financed internet start-up in the late 1990s and as a member of the supervisory board of two German SMEs .
