Sascha Müller-Kraenner

Sascha Müller-Kraenner (born August 22, 1963 in Mannheim ) is a German expert on nature conservation , climate policy , energy policy and European and international relations . He has been Federal Managing Director of Deutsche Umwelthilfe since 2015 , together with Jürgen Resch .

Life

Müller-Kraenner studied after graduating from high school in 1982 in Munich and 1990 only philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and then Biology and Public Law at the Technical University of Munich and at the University of Bayreuth . He then did community service in the Upper Franconian regional office of the State Association for Bird Protection in Bavaria

In December 1990, Müller-Kraenner ran for the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party in the Bayreuth constituency as a direct candidate for the German Bundestag . In 1991 Müller-Kraenner worked as a research assistant for nature conservation for MPs Kornelia Müller (Greens) in the Saxon state parliament .

From 1991 to 1998 he was responsible for setting up EU coordination at the German Nature Conservation Ring (DNR). During this time he also set up the DNR's Berlin office. Since then he has been writing irregularly for specialist publications such as Politische Ökologie , whose first column from Brussels he was responsible for. In 1995 Sascha Müller-Kraenner was the spokesman for the Climate Forum ´95 of German non-governmental organizations at the first world climate summit in Berlin .

In 1998 he went to the United States for the Heinrich Böll Foundation , where he founded the first subsidiary in Washington, DC , which he managed until 2002. In 2002 he returned to Berlin to head the new Europe / North America division and the foundation program for foreign and security policy. During this time, the establishment of the new foundation program in Ukraine and the major event “20 years after Chernobyl ” in Kiev also took place .

Since 2007, Sascha Müller-Kraenner has held various positions for The Nature Conservancy (TNC). In 2008 he founded TNC's European program with offices in Berlin and London , which he led as managing director until the end of 2014.

In 1995 he co-founded the Ecologic Institute, a transdisciplinary research organization with a focus on environmental research . Since then he has been a partner and advisor to the institute. In 2008 he co-founded the Ecologic Institute US, based in Washington, DC. He was a scholarship holder of “The Prince of Wales's Business & the Environment Program” and the German Marshall Fund . In 2005 he was also a World Fellow at Yale University .

Müller-Kraenner is represented on various boards and advisory boards, including a. at the International Climate Protection Initiative of the Federal Government , at the Institute for Economics and Ecosystem Management at the University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde , at the Global Nature Fund and - from summer 2017 - the OroVerde Tropical Forest Foundation .

Teaching assignments

From 2007 to 2008 he taught at the Hertie School of Governance, among other things , on the subject of “International Energy and Climate Policy ”.
