The Sassnitz is a former German railway ferry of the Stena Line shipping company and operated on the royal line between Sassnitz and Trelleborg across the Baltic Sea until 2020 .

history

The order to build the ship was given to the Danish Danyard A / S Aalborg Vaerft at the Leipzig spring fair in 1987 . The order was worth 400 million Danish kroner . The keel was laid in October 1987, the launch on June 24, 1988. The ship was christened on November 25, 1988. The ship was completed at Danyard A / S Fredrikshavn Vaerft . In January 1989, the ship initially undertook adaptation trips to Sassnitz and Trelleborg. On March 11, 1989, the flag was changed and the ship was handed over to the Deutsche Reichsbahn .

On March 12, 1989, the ship could be viewed in Saßnitz. 9,000 visitors viewed the ferry in just four hours. On March 17th and 18th the presentation took place in Trelleborg, where 3000 visitors came. The first scheduled ferry trip was carried out on March 19, 1989.

From 1993 the ferry belonged to the Deutsche Fährgesellschaft Ostsee , from 1998 to Scandlines . After taking over five Baltic Sea ferry routes from the Scandlines shipping company, the Sassnitz ferry also joined Stena Line at the end of 2012 . From September 9, 2018, the ferry was used on the Rostock – Trelleborg ferry route in addition to the Königslinie .

After Stena Line closed the Königslinie in March 2020, the Sassnitz left the Mukran ferry port on April 28, 2020 in the direction of Uddevalla , Sweden, where it was laid up until further notice. The ship was returned to Stena RoRo in June 2020, reflagged to Cyprus and prepared for sale or further charter.
