Saturnin Zaff

Saturnin Zaff (* 1636 in Sils in the Engadin ; † January 12, 1707 in Chur ) was a Swiss Reformed clergyman and educator .

Life

Saturnin Zaff attended the University of Bern in 1656 to study theology and two years later, two years later, he made his disputation there. On June 2, 1659, he was accepted into the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod in Davos , which allowed him to take over parishes in the Free State of the Three Leagues . But first he visited the University of Heidelberg after November 25th .

From 1660 to 1663 Zaff appears to have been a preacher in the secret Reformed church in Venice . Then he returned to Graubünden to take over the pastoral position in Soglio GR . In 1679 he moved to the Regulakirche in Chur and at the same time accepted a position as professor at the Nikolaischule. Several times there were conflicts with the pastor's colleague Johann Jakob Vedrosi.

Zaff taught at the Latin school since 1680 . In 1699 he was appointed as the first headmaster and philosophy teacher at the Collegium philosophicum, which later became an important training center for the people of Graubünden. In addition, in 1706 he took over the deanery of the Church of God and the St. Martin's Church .

Zaff died on January 12, 1707 in Chur. He had made a special contribution as a school principal. His son Nicolaus Zaff the Younger was also a Reformed clergyman.
