The Saudi Abha class was made up of four units Con-Ro - ship class .

history

The ships were built in 1982/1983 at the Swedish Kockums shipyard in Malmö for the Saudi Arabian shipping company The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (NSCSA). At the time, the ships were among the largest Con-Ro ships in the world. They were operated by the shipping company for 30 years. The ships were managed by Mideast Ship Management in Dubai and, after the company was taken over by Bahri, by Bahri Ship Management.

In 2013 they were replaced by the ships of the Bahri Abha class and scrapped in Alang ( India ) and Chittagong ( Bangladesh ) in the same year .

Technical specifications

The ships were met by a seven-cylinder - diesel engine from MAN B & W (type: 7L90GFCA) with 20,015  kW power driven, of a propeller worked. Four generators were available for power generation, each driven by a diesel engine from MAN B&W (type: 8S28LH-4). A diesel generator powered by a Scania diesel engine served as an emergency generator .

The superstructures were in the stern area of the ships. They built over part of the ro-ro decks. The ships were equipped with a stern ramp that could be folded down to the starboard side for handling rolling cargo. The ro-ro decks in the ship were connected to one another by fixed ramps. In front of the deck superstructures there were spaces for containers and holds , some of which were designed as ro-ro decks and some as holds for the transport of containers. The container holds were equipped with cell guides. The container capacity of the ships was 2,025  TEU . There were 50 connections for refrigerated containers. On deck, 23 20-foot containers could be loaded one behind the other and up to 13 containers next to each other. The deck containers were stowed up to four layers high.
