The Schönbach is a left tributary of the Saleskbach in West Lusatia in Saxony .
course
The stream rises in the Braunaer Forst forest west of the Schoenbach bush houses on the Lausitzer Platte, its source is at the northern foot of the Ochsenberg ( 205 m ). On some maps, however, the source in the Hatschkendelle south of the Buschhäuser is indicated as the origin of the Schönbach.
On its northeastern upper course, the Schönbach is dammed west of the village of Schönbach in several smaller forest ponds created from peat cuttings. Between Schönbach and Bulleritz the brook flows into the deep pond and the Tzschernitz pond. The drains of both ponds are piped off through the meadows.
About 600 m west of the Tzschernitz pond, the Schönbach re-emerges in the Hausteich at the southern exit of Bulleritz. Its middle course leads in a northerly direction through the entire locality of Bulleritz, where it feeds the mill pond. On its lower course the brook flows past the alder pond to Großgrabe . There it flows into the Saleskbach after 6.4 km .
history
The water power of the creek was previously used in Bulleritz to operate a water mill. Up until the 19th century, peat was cut in the Brauna Forest on the upper reaches of the stream.
