Bambi Awards 1990
The 42nd Bambi Awards took place on November 27, 1990 in the Opera House in Leipzig .
The award
In the year of reunification, of course , the Bambi awards had to take place in the east - Burda chose Leipzig . But it was also asked whether the Bambi award was not too early for Leipzig. Munich remained a meeting point in 1990 as well: Burda had booked a flight to Leipzig for the award winners and guests.
Bambis went to the then Gewandhauskapellmeister Kurt Masur (Ehrenbambi) and the then Chancellery Minister Rudolf Seiters as the "agent for reunification". Franz Beckenbauer and the then very successful sprinter Katrin Krabbe won the sports bambis. In addition, minibambis were given to 56 or 60 people. The mini bambis were about half the size of "normal" bambis. This “mass award”, which was unprecedented in the history of Bambi, was criticized as a “attendance bonus”.
