Bambi Awards 1964

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 16th Bambi award took place on April 19, 1964 in the Black Forest Hall in Karlsruhe . The prices refer to the year 1963.

The award

The Bambi Awards in 1964 was the tenth public Bambi Awards and, like the other nine before, it took place in Karlsruhe . It was also the second Bambi award under the leadership of Burda . This time, CEO Franz Burda intervened in the award process for the first time: the evening before, he invited the participants to a wine tasting at the publishing house in Offenburg . He also provided live music for the first time at a Bambi Awards - Ella Fitzgerald had a 55-minute performance. He also gave a provocative speech in which he messed with just about anything and anyone who, in his opinion, could somehow get in the way of German film in general and the Bambi Awards in particular. He also exclaimed “Long live German film! Long live Karlsruhe, which was to become the capital of German film. "

Burda received praise for the event, both from participants in the event (for example from Sophia Loren ) and from the press ( Berliner Zeitung ). The Badische Neuesten Nachrichten , on the other hand, criticized the organization of the event and, above all, Burda's speech, which they described as very undiplomatic. Burda reacted angrily and announced that there would be no more Bambi awards in Karlsruhe . In fact, there was a Bambi award there again in 1998 , more than twelve years after Franz Burda's death.

As in the previous year, the prizes in the actor categories went to Liselotte Pulver and Heinz Rühmann (national) and Sophia Loren (international). Charlton Heston won his first Bambi in the Best Actor International category . The awards as Honored Artist in German Film went to Lil Dagover and Viktor de Kowa . Burda had abolished the Bambis for the best young actors.
