The 51st Bambi Awards took place on November 13, 1999 in the Stella Musical Theater in Berlin .

The 51st Bambi Awards were the first to take place in Berlin. It was broadcast on ARD , but not live, but only on November 19th.

The Bambi of the century

The Bambi of the century went to Max Schmeling . Schmeling, who was 94 years old at the time, was unable to attend the award ceremony for health reasons and therefore thanked him by video overlay. The Bambi had already been presented to him by Henry Maske prior to the award ceremony in Hamburg .

The charity Bambi

For their self-initiated rescue operation in the 1999 Gölcük earthquake , operations manager Wolfgang Baumeister as well as Eva Finger, Tim Wassmann and Udo Ziehm from the Augsburg rescue dog squad were honored. However, only Baumeister, accompanied by a board representative and the training manager, could receive the Bambi personally. The other winners were in action in Düzce .
