The award

On the occasion of the Bambi awards in 1981, Hubert Burda announced the “start of a new medium”: the image plate that Burda and Philips had developed. Burda wanted to scan feature films from a kind of record with a laser.

Frank Elstner received a Bambi for the conception of Wetten dass ..? , which had first aired a few weeks earlier. The second edition ran the day after the award ceremony. However, this has remained the only Bambi for Frank Elstner so far (as of March 2018). The next Bambi for Wetten, dass ..? did not exist for Thomas Gottschalk until 30 years later .
